Besides the fact we are THE BEST RIDE IN THE VI?! Born To Rhumb has been operating in the Virgin Islands for over 10 years. In addition to the experience we bring, our boat is one of the few vessels around that can actually take more than 6 passengers COMFORTABLY and is COAST GUARD INSPECTED YEARLY. There are a lot of boats which take up to 12 passengers but they do not have the space for it or the certifications from the Coast Guard. Not only are you and your group on top of each other all day, your passenger safety is also being overlooked. We want you to have fun while on the water but we also value your safety!
When and where does the boat pick us up?
Born To Rhumb picks up at 9 am on St John in Cruz Bay at the National Park Dock. For our guests which are in St Thomas, we do offer pickups at American Yacht Harbor in Redhook - just let us know when you book. Pick up time is flexible since this is a private charter so let us know if you want to start earlier or later!
What happens if the forecast is predicting rain?
We will still go out, even if the forecast says rain. A little rain never stopped our boat day! Down in the islands it will usually rain somewhere at some time during the day. Rain showers down here move through quickly and we always try our best to avoid them when we are on the water. Our boat has a canopy and cabin which provides protection for you and your belongings in the event of a quick shower.
What should we bring with us on the boat?
Please bring along towels, NON-SPRAY SUNSCREEN, cameras, and your island exploring attitude along with you!
Why do you say not to bring spray sunscreen?
Spray sunscreen will stain the fiberglass on the boat and is nearly impossible to get out. Please don't apply prior to boarding or while on your trip because the residual spray sunscreen will rub off on the fiberglass. We want to keep Born To Rhumb looking good for many more years to come, this is why we ask that you do not use spray sunscreen when on board.
What Else is Included in addition to the day on the water?
We have all of the adult and child size life jackets / snorkel gear and noodles for our guests. We also provide water, soda (Coke, Sprite, Diet Coke), painkillers, and beer (Miller Light, Coors Light, St John Brewer's Summer Ale, Carib).
Do we need to bring food with us?
No, there is no need to bring food with you unless you would like to! Most of our guests eat breakfast before they get on board and we always plan for a lunch stop along the way. Some of our favorite places to stop for lunch are Pirate's Bight on Norman Island, Foxy's Taboo on Jost Van Dyke, and Pizza Pi in Christmas Cove.
Do you mix Groups of guests?
We only offer private charters and do not mix different groups/parties. If you reserve us for the day, it will be only your group on board to enjoy the beautiful sites of the Virgin Islands.
How long is the trip?
All of our charters our full-day, typically running from 9 am to 4:30 pm. The day is yours so if you want to come back earlier to the island, it is totally up to you!
Is gratuity Included in the price?
No, we do not included gratuity in our price. Some charters add an automatic 20% to the price but we feel a tip to your Captain and First Mate should be at your discretion. As a general rule of thumb, for a job well done 15% - 20% of the charter fee is a good guide.
